Billing of Other Fees

1.   Why do I need to pay for Other Fee?

Besides the tuition fees that are paid every trimester, UTAR students are required to pay Others Fees that comprise (1) Examination and Facilities Fee (2) Resource Centre Fee (3) Activities and Services Fee and (4) Insurance Premium

(i)      Examination and Facilities Fee

Examination Fee provides funding support for cost related to the conduct of final assessment and examination, marking of examination, accreditation fees, payment to Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE)/Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA) /professional bodies, moderation fees for external examiners, examination materials as well as administrative work carried out by staff in relation to accreditation and examination in the form of staff cost.  

Facilities fee provides funding support for cost related to the facilitation of on-campus and off-campus platform and support, subscription of software licenses, computer and telecommunication equipment, Internet bandwidth, server and maintenance of IT infrastructure, hardware and software as well as technical services provided by staff. It also includes the maintenance and improvement of facilities and infrastructure to facilitate learning and research activities. 

              (ii)    Resource Centre Fee

Resource Centre Fee is used to cover the cost of acquiring and maintaining library resources, as well as maintaining the library software licenses for remote access, searching tools, library system and library staff power.

Besides the ongoing and costly annual subscription fee paid for online databases with increasing rate, online journals, e-magazines and e-newspapers,  the University has also spent a lot to purchase and subscribe to more e-books in order to support OTL. 

                (iii)     Activities and Services Fee

Activities and Services Fees are used to cover student activities and services as well as staff cost for administering and organising the activities and services. University continues to provide services and organise activities though online platform, such as counselling and career guidance services, virtual career fairs, training courses, soft skill trainings, webinars, workshops, lecture series, seminars and talks conducted by industry practitioners or organized by the faculties and departments which contribute to the intellectual, leadership and social development of the students. 

Additionally, students can access to various administrative services such as faculty general offices, IT services, support services and others. It include the cost such as orientation cost, counselling services, DSA event/activities for students, virtual career fairs and career days, Student Leaders Programme, death and funeral expenses benefit for students etc. 

              (iv)    Insurance Premium 

Malaysian students are covered by a “Student Group Personal Accident Insurance Policy’. As part of the student welfare, the University has to maintain a very low insurance premium to cover the students for accidents around the clock anywhere in the world though they are out of campus. Students may contact Department of Student Affairs should they require to claim the insurance when they are in hometown or other place. 

2.   Will I get any refund if the other fees have not been fully utilized? 

Students of undergraduate programmes who had exceeded the normal minimum period of study and registered for another trimester would need to pay other fees in full amount. 

In the event the student has successfully completed the programme of study in that particular trimester, the other fees paid (except insurance premium) would be refunded to student on prorated basis.

The prorated other fees will be refunded to student within 2 months upon release of examination result. Student will receive an email notification once the refund or payment has been deposited into his/her bank account.
